Bag packed and ready

My AT thru hike start date is just around the corner! I've made a list of the stuff that is making the 2,000+ mile hike with me. At the beginning of my preparation, pretty much the only gear I had was my pack and my boots. I had graciously donated my other hiking gear/equipment to someone else in need but that gave me the opportunity to buy all new stuff!

Things on my body (maybe not all at once):
  • Osprey Aura 50 w/3L reservoir and Osprey raincover ($230 + ~$40 previously owned, + $30)
  • Salomon Ellipse GTX Hiking Shoes w/Superfeet insoles ($120 previously owned, +$50)
  • Columbia Heatech Pants (Previously owned)
  • Enlightened Equipment Torrid APEX Jacket  ($150)
  • North Face rain jacket (previously owned)
  • Long sleeve merino wool shirt, polyester t-shirt (Previously owned)
  • REI polyester leggings ($30)
  • Underarmor shorts (Previously owned)

  • Garmin vivoactive watch (Previously owned)

Things my body will be in/on:
  • Big Agnes Fly Creek HV UL 1 Tent + Footprint ($196 + $34)
  • REI Co-op Flash Insulated Air Sleeping Pad ($80)
  • Enlightened Equipment Quilt - Enigma 850 DT 20 degree ($280)
  • Sea to Summit Reactor Thermolite Mummy Bag Liner ($43)
  • Sea to Summit Aeros Pillow Ultra Light ($40)

Food/Water + Prep:
  • Jetboil MicroMo Cooking System + fuel ($97)

  • SteriPen Freedom (may be duplicative, but I will take no chances with giardia!) ($42)
  • Sea To Summit Alpha Light Long Spoon ($9)
  • 3L Osprey reservoir + gatorade bottle

Other things:
  • Osprey Lightweight/Ultralight Dry Sack
  • 1x2L for electronics ($14)
  • 1x3L for small items/toiletries ($10)
  • 2x13L one for food, one for quilt ($20 x 2)
  • Sea to Summit eVAC Dry Sack 8L (for clothes) ($16)
  • Ravpower External Battery pack and assorted charging cables ($25)
  • Small Moleskine notebook ($12)
  • Assorted toiletries, toilet paper, and small first aid kit (~$20)
  • REI Co-op Multi Towel Lite Medium ($9)
  • Small Gerber knife ($12)
  • 50' of paracord + carabiner ($10)
  • Garmin inReach Explorer (X-mas gift - $450)
  • AWOL's Databook (PDF downloaded to my phone $9)
  • Guthook App on phone ($59 for full trail)
  • Bandana ($5)

I spent about $2000 on my gear, although some I had from previous hiking trips and I had been purchasing items over a span of about a year. My pack weight (minus food and water) is approximately 17.6 pounds. I'll begin my hike with 2.5 days of food and probably 2 liters of water which will add around 9 pounds (assuming the rule of thumb: 2 lbs per day of food, 2.2 lbs per liter of water).

Total pack weight: 26.6 pounds
Starting body weight: 144.4 pounds
Total hiking weight: 171 pounds - sounds hefty..

This looks like a long list of things, but hopefully I have only what I need. Luckily I have the flexibility ($) to buy new/replace items that aren't working for me. Now let's get this show on the road - only 10 more days to wait.
